Sustainable architecture in Amazonia - Arts and crafts house in Tumbira

I volunteered to design the project that the community had already planned to build using the funds avaiable from FAS. They gathered around, I presented to everybody from Tumbira, and they accepted! I stayed in Tumbira for 6 months helping build - from the mental project until the entrance sign was hanged before the opening ceremony!

A simple plan in a U form, with a compluvium ceiling as the most efficient way to speed the air circulation inside. A background of navy carpenters  and the best wood in the planet so accesible were esential for sustainable design decisions, in order to avoid at most on outside (industrial) equipment.

The arts and crafts by being the theme was also included in the building. Also a way to unite everyone (men and women) around the construction, and make them all feel as part of the community building.
